Ants, Aardvarks and Jazz

Another flashback of my somewhat misspent youth in the early to mid 70's, almost NEVER missed a Saturday morning watching the exploits of a perpetually hungry and not very bright blue Aardvark chasing a Dean Martin-esque Ant in a fashion not unlike Wile E. Coyote. Part of the comedic appeal (besides the hilarious slapstick) was the fact this Aardvark talked like Jackie Mason (both characters voiced by comedian John Byner).

But, it doesn't stop there. These cartoons had some of the SMOKINGEST jazz music, played by top West Coast jazz-cats of the time like Shelly Manne, Ray Brown, Pete Candoli, Jimmy Rowles, Tommy Tedesco and more. The chase scenes had some of the best stuff musically, especially with Pete Candoli doing that "scream trumpet" thing he was so famous for (he, like his brother Conte played with Stan Kenton's band, who encouraged that sort of thing).

By some miracle of divine intervention, these sidesplitting cartoons are now available once again, by way of good 'ol Amazon.
